The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is honored to exhibit Maryam Safajoo’s painting series on the persecution of Baha’is in Iran in an exhibition titled Our Story is One. Accompanied by artifacts of those imprisoned, they tell a powerful story of injustice and violence, paired with hope, resilience and survival.

Join artist Selinger Gonzo for a creative experience exploring the art of eco-printing! In this two-hour workshop, you will be guided in a step-by-step process on how to prepare your fabric, select and arrange plant materials, and print nature’s beauty onto fabric. You’ll leave with your own unique printed pair of organic, cotton socks, a detailed pdf guide, and the skills to continue your eco-printing journey at home. All materials are included in the class price. This workshop offers an enjoyable and meditative, creative experience. No prior experience necessary.

The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art is honored to present We Stand with Ukraine, a concert commemorating three years of Ukraine’s fight for freedom and sovereignty. Experience an unforgettable evening of music performed by the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra alongside Ukrainian musicians. The program will feature works by renowned Ukrainian composers and other celebrated masters. The orchestra will be conducted by Michael Holian.

Pysanka artist, Elena Diadenko, will be leading a workshop on the art of Ukrainian pysanka. The traditional art of decorating eggs, is a deeply symbolic and intricate practice, renowned for its use of floral and geometric patterns. All materials are included in the price of this workshop including a traditional kistka and wax.

These designs are not just beautiful; they carry profound meanings tied to Ukrainian culture, religion, and folklore. Pysanka, derived from the Ukrainian word pysaty meaning "to write," involves applying wax to an egg in intricate patterns and then dyeing it in layers. The designs themselves are highly symbolic, with each motif carrying specific meanings that have been passed down through generations.
